If you’re a wanderer like myself, chances are you’re also an unabashed book nerd. Reading is, after all, one of the best (& cheapest) ways to wander. After many years conceiving of these two things separately, I decided to create Pintxos y Libros. Here you’ll find me writing with fairly straightforward goals: to discover new books and new food (two of life’s greatest pleasures!), and to travel more thoughtfully by doing so.
When possible, I focus on books by local authors, as well as on literature in translation (in the US, only 3% of all books published are works in translation, a horrifying statistic). You will find some obvious pairings—Federico García Lorca and tortilla española, perhaps. But you’ll also come across the occasional odd couple. Books tend to have a way of demanding my attention from time to time, as do pintxos. When they call to me, I listen.
A brief bio written in the 3rd person: Sara is originally from Oak Ridge, TN, and has a Master of Fine Arts in poetry. While nothing specifically qualifies her to write about food, she enjoys any incarnation of tapas/pintxos/pinchos, and she can also make some fine buttermilk biscuits. In the past, she has taught creative writing at the National University of Singapore and ESL in Granada, Spain. She currently lives in Logroño, La Rioja.
